An artistic performance entitled “Women in Music” was held on December 6, 2021 in the concert hall of the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo. The performance consisted of two parts – a lecture and a concert. In the first part, through lectures, videos and audio recordings, the works, biographies, circumstances under which they created and the prejudices that famous women composers met (Hildegard, Klara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Ludmila Freit, Ljubica Maric, Isidora Zebeljan) were presented. ..), as well as famous opera artists (Maria Callas). Students of the Music Academy (Azra Halitović, Andrej Gradina and Milena Nikolić) interested the audience with data that are not generally known, but speak a lot about the position of women in society that has changed through different historical and social circumstances, with reference to music.
In the second part, a concert program was performed in which works by prominent women composers were performed. The aim of the project is to point out the importance of affirming women’s creativity in all segments, including music.
Students performed compositions with the following instruments:
Azra Halitović, accordion,
Andrej Gradina, guitar,
Milena Nikolic, soprano.
A diverse repertoire for solo accordion, solo guitar, as well as chamber repertoire (soprano, accordion, guitar) was performed, and among the compositions were works by prominent women composers.
