LOC4SOC: Comic book art workshops held in Hadžići Municipality

In the period from 23-26. April 2024, four workshops were held in the Hadžići Municipality. The aim of the workshops is to raise awareness about the topics of discrimination against the other and the different through creative and artistic activities.

The training was led by the artist and tattoo master, Jasmin Šehović, with the support of the project team, prof. of the German language, Lejla Đelilović and prof. of sports and physical education, Mirza Kovačević. The trainings were held in the following schools: Elementary School Hadžići, Elementary School 6. Mart, Elementary School 9. May, Elementary School Hilmi ef. Šarić.

In addition to the students of the mentioned schools, children, users of the Temporary Reception Center Ušivak also participated in the workshops. Activities within the LOC4SOC project aim to connect children on the move and children from the local community. Together, the participants discussed the topics of discrimination, peer violence, modesty and empathy, and then recorded their thoughts in the form of comics.

Social cohesion is achieved in various ways, but a creative-artistic style like this provides a safe space for open communication and socializing. This method has proven to be an excellent way for children to express their thoughts without shame or fear. Although sometimes children do not have the capacity to express their thoughts in words, comics as a medium enable them to record them in a permanent form. Our activities are supported in the framework of the project “Individual measures to strengthen capacity for managing migration flows in Bosnia and Herzegovina” financed by the European Union and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
