We are pleased to invite you to the series of online Socrates Cafes where you will have a unique opportunity to participate in a philosophical dialogue with Christopher Phillips, the famous founder of Socrates Cafes. The first session aims to explore the important question: “How do we recognize cases and acts of gender inequality and violence against women and minorities?”
The first in a series of online Socrates Cafes will explore the multifaceted nature of the issue of gender-based violence, and Christopher Phillips will guide us through this complex terrain. As part of the dialogue, we will explore the role of cultural, traditional and implicit biases – both those originating from biological and neurological factors. Everyone can participate in Socrates’ cafes. Age, gender, education, religion, nationality, sexual orientation are not important, because everyone can benefit from life experience and wisdom. Those who participate in Socrates’ cafes share the sentiments of the philosopher Socrates, which involves a passionate but also fictional exchange of ideas.
In 2000, Professor Phillips completed a master’s degree in humanities, with an emphasis on philosophy, at the University of California. He also holds a master’s degree in natural sciences from Delta State University. Phillips received his doctorate in communications from Edith Cowan University in Australia. In 2012, he received the “Distinguished American Leadership Award”. He also taught at New York University and at the University of Pennsylvania.
