P4C IN THE THIRD PRIMARY SCHOOL SARAJEVO – “Should we always avoid someone who is different from us?”

In the Third Primary School, in the municipality of Ilidža, a philosophical survey was held on the topic of friendship despite differences. This very important topic was raised by teacher Irma Ahmić with third grade students in the Physical and Health Education class on March 16, 2022.

Diversity is wealth, not an occasion for discrimination and abuse. From an early age, children should be encouraged to accept the other and the different. Education reform implements inclusion, which aims to provide everyone with equal opportunities for education, regardless of differences. Thus, in one class there can be students with disabilities, gifted students, students who have emigrated, students of different national and religious affiliations, etc.

A great stimulus that shows most of the above is the short film “For the Birds” produced by Pixar. With this film, teacher Irma encouraged students to ask a philosophical question: “Should we always avoid someone who is different from us?”

The students asked this question because they were interested in whether they should reject someone if he is different from them? After an interesting discussion, and exceptional attitudes and examples from life, they came to the conclusion that we should not avoid someone who is different from us, and that, with good will and effort of both parties, we can build a wonderful friendship. Diversity unites us.
