FIRST CREATIVE WORKSHOP ACTIVISM AND YOUTH FOR YOUTH IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

What is engaged art and how people draw attention to the problems of society through the arts in order to encourage positive change? How to become an active citizen in the community and how to contribute to the development of a healthy environment in which we live? How good friends we are and how much we are ready to help people in need? What is volunteering and why it is important for the healthy development of our personality? These and other issues were discussed by TPO Foundation and students of VIII and IX grade of Ninth elementary school in Rakovica on creative workshop ‘Activism and Youth’ on March 27, 2017, which TPO Foundation implemented in cooperation with the young actors of the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, Ivana Vojinovic and Adis Omerovic.

The objective of these workshops is to strengthen competence in young people through discussion and learning about civic activism, nonviolence and critical thinking. Young people had the opportunity to talk with moderator Melika Sahinovic about engaged art and civic activism through comics ‘Nira', as the means of combating violence and injustice in the community in which they live. The particular delight was when the actors Ivana Vojinovic and Adis Omerovic played two skits on the topic of bullying, after which they discussion about the abuse and inappropriate use of the Internet, but also the dangers of publishing private content on social networks and internet violence. Students shared their opinions on ways of countering different types of violence and concluded that no one must not remain silent to the violence and that everyone should adequately react if they perceive violence. The next workshop is scheduled already for March 30, when TPO is planning to visit youth in elementary school May 9th in Pazaric.
