Within the UNIGEM project (University and gender mainstreaming), students of the University of Banja Luka marked the campaign “16 days of activism”. Activities included a debate, workshop and public debate on “Gender Equality” and “Violence against Women”. The activities included the participation of: students and associates of the University of Banja Luka, high school students, members of the Red Cross Banja Luka and professional associates of the Ombudsman of BiH. The main goal of the activity was to acquaint the public in more detail with the problems of “gender equality” and “violence against women” through debate activities.
The activity of the debate on the topic “Media contributes to greater representation of gender equality”, and the discussion after the debate with the audience was held in the courtroom of the Faculty of Law in Banja Luka. The moderator was Marko Romić. Participants in the debate were members of DK Alkibijad, while the audience was: members of the Red Cross Banja Luka, students and professors of Banja Luka Gymnasium, members of the Debate Club Gorgija Banja Luka, as well as students of Banja Luka University.
The activity of workshops on “Violence against Women” and “Gender Equality” was held at the Faculty of Law in Banja Luka. The moderator was Anita Granolić. The lecturers were: Jelena Simović – expert associate in the institution of the Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH, and Maja Savković – president of the Union of Social Work Students. The audience consisted of: interns at the Institution of the Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH, students of the University of Banja Luka and members of DK Alkibijad.
The activity of the public debate on the topic “Violence against women should be punished more severely” was held at the Faculty of Law in Banja Luka. The moderator was Tijana Stojičić. Participants were: members of the Red Cross Banja Luka, students of the University of Banja Luka, students of the Faculty of Law in Graz, and members of DK Alkibijad.
The realization of project activities resulted in the participation of 67 young people in activities, educated 67 young people on violence against women and its prevention, opening discussions on equality of women in society, greater involvement of students in project implementation, establishing better cooperation between institutions and universities, publishing information about the project through media channels.
