Within the project UNIGEM – University and Gender Mainstreaming, students of the University of Montenegro realized activities on the occasion of the campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence”.
On November 16, a workshop on gender equality was held at the UNDP premises, where the program manager Kaća Djuričković and the consultant for the gender equality program at the UNDP Marija Blagojević spoke. Students had the opportunity to learn more about issues of gender discrimination, gender-based domestic violence, the history and development of feminism, as well as the position and role of women in Montenegro society.
On the occasion of November 25, “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, the Student Council of the Faculty of Law of the UNCG announced a competition for the best essay on the topic: “Strong identity – a prerequisite for the emancipatory role of women in society.” The competition was announced for students of all faculty units in Montenegro, because the diversity of texts and opinions of young people is the key to social change. The aim of the competition was to strengthen the role of women in Montenegrin society, and valuable cash prizes were prepared for the best essayists. 40 essays were received, and the commission decided which three essays were the winners. The Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro also marked December 10, “International Human Rights Day”, with a panel discussion on “Discrimination against Women in the Judiciary”. Participants in the discussion were Svetlana Vujanovic, a former judge, Valentina Pavlicic, Montenegro’s representative before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and Ana Perovic Vojinovic, a member of the Judicial Council of Montenegro and a judge of the Administrative Court of Montenegro. In addition to the discussion, the program also included music and stage works from the opus of Montenegrin art, performed by a young Montenegrin artist.
