In the period from 24-25. February, 2022, a two-day training was realized within the program SAPERE BH – Philosophy for Children (P4C) in Sarajevo. The participants in the training were 40 primary school teachers, selected by the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education.
In the last four years, the TPO Foundation, in cooperation with the SAPERE Institute from United Kingdome, has additionally trained the teaching staff of primary and secondary schools and universities for the application of critical thinking methods (P4C) in the teaching process.
The first day of the training began with the Assistant Minister of Education of KS, Nihada Čolić: “This is a story that means and needs us. I leave you to the professionals. I wish I was with you so I can listen to them, but today that privilege has belonged to you. Out of 1,010 teachers in the canton, about forty have been selected who will be able to take advantage of this. So you really understand this as a privilege. ”
In the first part of the training, teachers were introduced to all the details of the process (when and where the training will take place, how long it will last, what to expect after the training), with the Philosophy for Children program and how to implement it in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The second day of the training started with the Minister of Education of KS, Naida Hota Muminović: “In a world where we all talk about STEM, the exact sciences, and in fact small countries have the opportunity to advance the economic aspect in these skills, but if we deprive it of human angle and view, then it is not worth it. Therefore, when you teachers, as people in whose hands students come for the first time on a long educational journey, these things work well, one part of the students will choose philosophy as a profession and so it should be. Critical thinking should be an imperative of education.”
The TPO Foundation has been accredited by the SAPERE UK Institute for the implementation of this world-renowned program. The educators at the upcoming trainings are certified P4C trainers: prof. dr. Zilka Spahić Šiljak, M.Sc. Elmana Cerić, M.Sc. Sedžida Hadžić and M. sc. Dragana Koprivica.
