ETOS Initiative Project: ‘Man Counts on Man’ – by Primary School ‘Breške’, Tuzla

<span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>The TPO Foundation has awarded a grant as part of the ETOS initiative to the project entitled <strong>''Man Counts on Man''</strong>. The project was implemented in the period from May to November 2019. The project participants were Primary School ''Breške'' and Primary School ''Husino'' from Tuzla. The project coordinator was Amela Petričević.</span></span>

<span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>The project brought students closer to understanding the value of man, their role for living in peace, a safer and healthier life, and to promoting and living universal values.</span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>The main objective of the project</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> was to develop and strengthen the competences of students, teachers and parents as partners of the school, to communicate non – violently, to promote and live universal values ​​and interreligious dialogue.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activities held:</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 1. Meeting of participants</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. 30 May 2019. The meeting of participants of the intercultural and interreligious project <strong>"Man Counts on Man"</strong> was held at ''Husino'' Primary School. The principals and pedagogues of the schools, a representative of the ''Revolt'' Youth Movement and the project coordinator were present. It was agreed that the project would involve all pupils, teachers and parents as partners of the school through teaching and extracurricular activities and that it would be based on ETOS guidelines and emphasize the values ​​of Ethics, Tolerance, Openness and Solidarity. Participants watched the project movie made by the coordinator <strong>''School, our second home''</strong> which was promoted on 29 October 2018 at the ETOS Conference in Sarajevo.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 2. Workshops for parents and students</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. The aim of the workshops was to achieve the best possible communication between parents and children and to motivate them to spend their free time as creatively and qualitatively as possible. Workshop leaders were: Amela Petričević, Ljiljana Pavašević, Gordana Tomić, Nefisa Alić, Nataša Tokić, Selma Mehanović, Zijada Ahmetović, Irma Karić and Amira Ruvić. 100 parents were educated through workshops and parenting meetings and all students from the first to the sixth grade. The conclusion of all was that <strong>"the more open the school is to parents as partners of the school and to the local community, the more successful the school environment is, and the more motivated the students are to acquire the knowledge and skills they need."</strong></span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 3. Workshops for students on the topics of "The Importance of Nonviolent Communication in Dialogue"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> by Jasmina Brkić and on the topic <strong>"Hate Speech"</strong> by Anamarija Lukić. 40 students from sixth to eighth grade attended the workshops.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 4. ''You are not alone''</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> – Humane activities. The students, accompanied by a pedagogue and a teacher, organized a visit to the home for the elderly ''Oasis'' in the local community. They talked to the old grandparents, made beds for them, and at the time of their departure, gave them the artwork prepared only for them. Educator Irma Karić pointed out that this meeting meant a lot to the home for the elderly users who did not remove the smile from their faces and the children could not wait to come again to present the most beautiful program and to fill their days with love, warmth and happiness.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 5. ''Beautiful thoughts – beautiful feelings – beautiful words – the joy of humanity''</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. Language and literature teachers Ljiljana Pavašević and Draga Pejić organized workshops for reading and creative writing. Fine Arts teacher Alma Krasić, in cooperation with painter Anto Miljanović, held two art workshops – one at the school and the other at the ''Husino'' Center of Culture. Art and literary works will be exhibited on wall papers, school papers and at the final manifestation of the project implementation at the ''Husino'' Cultural Center.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 6. Panel discussion: ''In which direction are you going, human?''</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. Lifelong learning and competencies for interpersonal understanding have been discussed and promoted. The motto of the panel was the proverb: ''We still have to learn to live together'' (H.G. Gadamer). After the panel discussion, students participated in the workshops: <strong>"The values ​​of living together"</strong> led by Sanja Hajdukov and "<strong>Challenges of interculturalism"</strong> led by Admira Uzunić. At the same time, teachers used <strong>''Gift giving from the heart''</strong> to promote educational work both in teaching and extracurricular activities and in cooperation with parents and the local community.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 7. Plant ''a tree of friendship''</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. The representative of the Ecological Association ''ECO GREEN'' of TC Muhamed Omerović gave an ecological lesson in the school yard on the importance of preserving nature from pollution, on the importance of planting each tree and on the importance of marking ecological dates such as Climate Change Day and Mountain Day.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 8. Final event and round table: "In which direction are you going, human?"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. In the full hall of the Center of Culture ''Husino'' was organized the final manifestation of the project <strong>''Man Counts on Man''</strong>. Participants watched the presentation of activities that took place from May to November 2019. The participating schools were promoted as schools based on ETOS values ​​that serve to prevent any form of violence and discrimination and to fight against any form of stereotype and prejudice. After that, a round table was organized and  moderated by Vesna Divković, and participants were Sanja Hajdukov Erazmo, Željka Mitrović, Mirela Vrabac, Maja Jurčenko, Adela Jahić, Izet Numanović, Marko Pranjić and Muhamed Omerović. The message of the round table was that being human is of the utmost value because man counts on man.</span></span></span></span>
