ETOS Initiative: – ‘DIVERSITY ENRICHES’ – Gymnasium ‘Musa Ćazim Ćatić’, Tešanj

<span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Through the ETOS initiative, the TPO Foundation has awarded a grant to the project entitled <strong>''Diversity Enriches''</strong>. The project was implemented from June to November 2019. Two high schools participated in the project: Gymnasium '' Musa Ćazim Ćatić '' Tešanj and MSŠ '' Stjepana Radića '' Usora. The project coordinator was Sabahudin Ćeman.</span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>The main objective of the project</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> was to improve intercultural and interreligious dialogue and understanding in the areas of the municipalities of Tešanj and Usora, the Islamic community and the parish of St. Anthony of Padua between the young people from the two schools.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activities held:</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 1. Workshop "Culture and Interculturalism"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. 30 students from Tešanj and Usora attended the workshop in the room of the Tešanj High School. The workshop was led by Miralem Brkić, Amira Solo and Kristijan Glavaš. The conclusion of the workshop was that we are all members of one large family –  the Family of Man – and that we are connected by many more things than we are separated.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 2. Workshops on "Dialogue of Religions"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> led by Sabahudin Ćeman and <strong>"Relationship with the Other and the Different"</strong> led by Adnan Karahodžić. In accordance with Hans Kung's ideas that dialogue cannot be achieved without the knowledge about those with whom the dialogue is conducted, the "golden rules" of religion have been emphasized.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 3. Joint tour of the Čaršija (Ferhat Pasha) mosque in Tešanj and Gradina – fortress in Tešanj</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. Students from both schools, accompanied by their professors, toured these buildings.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 4. Workshop "Stereotypes and Prejudices"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> led by Kristijan Glavaš, Miralem Brkić and Amira Solo at MSŠ in Usora. Students were presented with photos of various profiles of people, from the president of the state, actors to serial killers. The photographs were targeted in order to lead students to stereotype conclusions and to make them aware of the process.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 5. Workshops on "Dialogue of Religions"</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’> and <strong>"Attitudes towards the Other and the Different"</strong> for professors of MSŠ "Stjepan Radić" Usora led by Sabahudin Ćeman and Adnan Karahodžić. The participants were informed about the importance of Hans Kung 's ideas for us in BiH and for humanity and concluded that if we cannot influence our past, we can certainly make a positive impact within the current educational process and teach young people on intercultural and interreligious understanding and appreciation.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 6. Tour of the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Usora</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. The students of both schools, accompanied by their professors, visited this facility where Friar Ivica Vidak welcomed them in the church.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 7. Round table ''Intercultural and interreligious dialogue''</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. Held in the small hall of the "Center for Culture and Education" in Tešanj. The participants were Fuad Omerbašić imam from Tešanj, pastor Ivica Vidak – friar from Usora, project coordinator Sabahudin Ćeman from Tešanj and Miralem Alić in front of the NGO "Sehara" from Tešanj. The round table emphasized the importance of intercultural and interreligious dialogue between Muslims and Christians, citing examples of good practice from the past, such as the meeting of St. Francis of Assisi with the Sultan of Egypt in the midst of a crusade and highlighted the ideas and contributions of Hans Kung in this regard.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Activity 8. Comics about diversity</span></span></strong><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>. Tešanj students, with the instructions of Miralem Brkić, made a comic strip about differences with the accent that they are not a problem but resource.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>A total of 530 students were educated in both schools and 31 professors on the importance of the Global Ethos.</span></span></span></span>

<span style=’font-size:12pt’><span style=’font-family:"Times New Roman",serif’><span style=’font-size:11.0pt’><span style=’font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif’>Most of the students who participated in the project live in homogeneous, single – ethnic communities and because of this they have not had the opportunity to get to know, socialize and learn about each other before. Therefore, they constantly asked the project implementers why something like this had not happened in their towns before and when a similar project would be organized again. Thanks to this project, students will have the opportunity to socialize and respect each other more in the future after the first and basic step is done.</span></span></span></span>
